When the Centre Stays Soft After a Replacement: What Evidence Helps?
An early XREAL Air owner report describes a particularly frustrating sequence: replacement hardware and prescription inserts still did not make centre text satisfactory.
An early XREAL Air owner report describes a particularly frustrating sequence: replacement hardware and prescription inserts still did not make centre text satisfactory. The owner could not determine whether the remaining problem concerned the unit, the lenses or their own viewing experience. Lensden cannot settle that uncertainty from a discussion thread.
This is a historical Air report, not a test of current One-series hardware. No exact firmware build is established. Its value is the purchasing problem it exposes: a return deadline can arrive before remote troubleshooting produces a confident explanation.
Preserve the comparison, not just the complaint
Before sending a device away, record the model, return case reference, source device, supplied cable and a short description of the symptom. Keep the same small test document available for the replacement. If the first pair has already gone, avoid reconstructing precise differences from memory as though they were measurements.
For the replacement, describe whether the soft region is fixed in the image, follows frame movement or varies between sources. Keep any prescribed correction and host scaling documented. Include the practical consequence: for example, inability to read the middle of a normal document at the text size used for work. Do not send an entire private work document when a harmless sample demonstrates the issue.
Understand the limits of a camera record
A phone pushed behind a display lens can itself be off-centre or out of focus. A poor photograph does not prove that the wearer sees a poor image; a good photograph does not disprove their difficulty. Explain the method and label the picture as supporting documentation, rather than an optical bench measurement.
XREAL's prescription guidance describes an accessory arrangement, not a guarantee that any lens made for a different frame will work. Questions about an individual prescription belong with the optical provider. Hardware exchange policy belongs with the seller.
Keep an exit decision available
Ask support what the next proposed action would establish, how long it should take and what happens to the return deadline. A second exchange may be reasonable; an indefinite chain of exchanges is not an obligation. If the intended work remains impractical, returning the product can be a valid outcome even without identifying a universal fault.
