“It Worked” Was Not the Last Reply: Reading a Firmware Regression Report Carefully
An XREAL One and Steam Deck OLED thread reports no video after firmware identified as 15.1.
An XREAL One and Steam Deck OLED thread reports no video after firmware identified as 15.1. The owner says the glasses still work with other sources and the Deck still works with other displays. A suggested refresh change initially appears successful, but the owner later says the problem returned and questions whether that setting caused the improvement.
That last update changes the editorial conclusion. The thread does not establish a durable fix. It also does not prove that firmware 15.1 breaks every Steam Deck combination. The reported version label is incomplete for a fully reproducible build comparison.
Capture the before-and-after identities
When an issue follows an update, keep the device, exact available version strings, source OS and output settings together. Record the previous working state only where it is known, rather than reconstructing a precise old build from memory. Distinguish an app update from an intermediary OS update and glasses firmware.
Use ordinary harmless material to demonstrate the symptom. If another supported display or source is already available, its result can narrow the report. It does not isolate every component, because a different pairing can negotiate a different mode.
Preserve the temporary success
If reconnecting or changing a supported setting helps once, record both the improvement and the later recurrence. Do not keep a solved label merely because the first reply sounded encouraging. Conversely, one recurrence does not establish how often other owners encounter it.
XREAL's black-screen troubleshooting page provides manufacturer guidance for the relevant symptom. If a supported recovery or rollback is needed, obtain the procedure from the manufacturer for the exact hardware. Do not flash an unofficial file or use another model's firmware to test a forum theory.
Ask for the next discriminating observation
A useful support request asks what result would distinguish output negotiation from an update-specific issue. Include what already failed so the same actions are not repeated indefinitely. Keep logs and serial information private unless a legitimate support channel needs them.
