A 65 W Charger Does Not Make Every Glasses Hub a 65 W Charging Path
An XREAL Hub owner reports that one charger worked directly with Steam Deck but not through their hub, while another supply behaved differently.
An XREAL Hub owner reports that one charger worked directly with Steam Deck but not through their hub, while another supply behaved differently. The owner says changing connection order did not resolve it. This is a useful power-path observation, not proof of a universal charger incompatibility or a diagnosed hub failure.
ROG Ally buyers face the same category of question: which component's rating actually describes the completed path? The charger, cable, hub and handheld can have different documented limits. A large number on the charger is not evidence that every intermediate product passes that number to the handheld.
Name the accessory rather than calling it a dock
XREAL's Hub page describes a charge-and-play accessory. ASUS's ROG XREAL R1 FAQ describes a different glasses-and-dock system. Their specifications should not be merged into a single generic “XREAL dock” claim. Check the exact generation of Ally or other handheld as well.
Before ordering, ask the accessory manufacturer what charging behaviour is supported with your handheld and intended display mode. Keep a missing answer marked Unknown. Do not infer support from a retailer photograph showing a charger connected while the screen is on.
Establish where the problem begins
Use the supplied or otherwise documented power arrangement first. Record whether the handheld recognises the supply without the glasses attached, then whether attaching the glasses changes that indication. Avoid repeated cable flipping, unsupported voltage settings or improvised adapters as a substitute for the maker's instructions.
If the charger works directly but not through the hub, that narrows the support request. It does not establish whether negotiation, cable capability, connector damage or the hub itself is responsible. Include the exact product labels and the observable charging state rather than guessing the cause.
Separate charging from performance
A charging icon does not establish that the battery will rise during a demanding game. Likewise, a handheld performance mode is not a measurement of electrical power arriving through the cable. Check behaviour during the actual ordinary task and describe any continuing battery decline without extrapolating a failure rate.
For travel, choose the smallest documented chain that meets the task, while retaining a conventional charging option. The Lensden connection checklist keeps power and video as separate requirements.
