RayNeo Air 4 Pro: What to Check When an HDMI Adapter Gets Hot
An Air 4 Pro owner later reported that connecting the required power cable resolved the adapter heat problem. Separate that update from fit and audio questions.
An adapter is often the least glamorous component in an AR glasses setup—and the first thing forgotten when something feels wrong. A RayNeo Air 4 Pro owner in Germany described an HDMI adapter becoming uncomfortably hot during PlayStation use, along with a blurred lower screen edge and audio concerns. The owner later updated the same post: they had omitted a required additional power cable, and reported that connecting it resolved the heating issue. That outcome is central to the account. It is not a measured temperature test or evidence that the accessory line is defective.
Establish exactly which part heats up
Touching a device briefly is not an accurate thermometer. What matters is whether heating accompanies repeated disconnection, visual artifacts, odour, unexpected shutdowns or damage. If any such signs appear, stop using the adapter and contact the seller or manufacturer. Do not wrap the converter to hide it, place it under bedding, or continue experimenting with incompatible power supplies.
Check signal direction before blaming the glasses
A PlayStation emits HDMI video. Many common computer adapters are designed for the opposite direction: USB-C laptop to HDMI monitor. A valid HDMI-source-to-glasses chain may need active conversion and separate power. Verify the exact input/output markings and supported video modes. Lensden's PS5 setup guide describes that distinction in detail.
Keep the fit complaint separate
The same Reddit report also mentioned missing the lower part of the image despite trying nose pads. Adapter temperature cannot explain the physical relationship between the frame and the wearer's eyes. Test a simple supported source, a smaller displayed frame when available, and one-eye visibility. If the display remains clipped, record the nose-pad configuration and return to fit guidance.
Audio deserves its own test
Play a short clip with obvious spoken audio. Confirm whether sound is routed through the console, converter, glasses or a separate headset. A successful picture only establishes that a video path exists. Avoid assuming every HDR or high-refresh mode survives the full chain, especially when the source and converter negotiate different capabilities.
The sensible outcome is a documented connection chain and a support ticket when needed, not an internet argument about whether all HDMI adapters “run hot.”
Manufacturer context
RayNeo's Air 4 Pro page identifies distinct HDMI and charging accessories. Use the supplied instructions for the exact accessory; neither the glasses product name nor the presence of a USB-C socket establishes a power connection. The owner's firmware build and adapter revision remain unknown. Their later success is an account of one corrected setup, not a thermal safety certification.
