Can You Replace the Assistant in Smart Glasses? Start With the Tasks
In a Ray-Ban Meta discussion about assistant usefulness, participants want different things: better answers, access to another assistant, or simply reliable messaging and object questions.

Wishes in a discussion are not supported integrations. A Bluetooth audio connection also does not establish that a glasses camera, wake phrase and controls can be reassigned to any assistant on the phone.
Before buying around a promised future platform, list three tasks you actually need. Sending a message, identifying something through the camera and controlling a calendar can depend on different services and permissions, even if all begin with speech.
Ask what happens after the command
For each task, identify the supported glasses model, phone operating system, app, account region and destination service. Check whether the command runs through the glasses' own assistant or merely plays phone audio. A feature working through a phone's manual interface is not proof of hands-free availability through the frame.
Treat workarounds as separate products with separate permission and support questions. Do not install an unofficial app or purchase an API subscription because a commenter describes an experiment. Lensden has not validated a replacement-assistant configuration for this article.
A rollout announcement is not your settings screen
Meta's June 2026 glasses announcement includes feature and regional rollout information, with a later update concerning Muse Spark availability in the US and Canada. That is manufacturer context, not proof that every existing pair has the same assistant capabilities today.
When the distinction affects a purchase, ask for a demonstration of the exact task on the intended model and region. Save the relevant support reference and check the setting on the actual app. Mark an unavailable or undocumented integration Unknown rather than filling the gap with a launch headline.
Judge the routine, not the number of features
A useful assistant can be narrow. Someone who regularly uses a supported messaging command may value it more than an impressive but unreliable general conversation. Conversely, if your essential task needs a different ecosystem, good speakers do not remove that limitation.
Keep a phone-based fallback for essential tasks and evaluate the glasses on currently supported behaviour. Future integration can improve a product, but should not be counted as already delivered.
